Welcome To DIY Green Living by Christopher on 9 April 2014
If you’re reading this article that means you’ve found this great new site called DIY Green Living! Isn’t that exciting? First of all, I would like to say thank you for giving us a try. I hope that we can all learn from each other on this great site. I decided to start this website because of two key qualities I possess. First, I love building things. My wife has lovingly called me a “tinkerer”. This involves building new things, fixing broken things, or even figuring out how to do something. I just love the puzzle aspect of it! Second, I like saving money. And in the world we live in today, who doesn’t? So, I decided that for this site I would focus on projects that you can do to help you save money, but still have your basic needs met.
I actually got the primary idea for this site from an interesting story someone posted on Facebook. It was winter time in Rexburg, ID and we had recently had an electric bill of around $100. Most of this charge was because of our electric heaters in our apartments. So, that being said when I saw this story about heating a room for less than $1 a day, I was very interested. Here’s the video that goes with the story:
After watching this video I was hooked. I became extremely interested in looking into alternative options to standard heating as well as other aspects of life. This led to my overall idea of saving green as you go green. A lot of what I’ve found deals with utilizing solar, wind, or water power to accomplish different tasks. But as I explored for more ideas, especially on Pinterest, I found much more that I’m excited to experiment with and post about. Right now we’re still in the very early in the process, so there are some features that I’ve not been able to put into effect yet. Some things you can anticipate are forums with the ability to leave comments, and member benefits. You can also expect great articles explaining both the benefits and the how-to in the areas of solar, wind, and water as well as gardening tips, canning, recycling, reusing, and cheap alternatives to common ways of doing things.
A great way to keep up-to-date with us is to follow us on our different social media outlets. We currently have a Facebook page, a Google+ account, and a growing list of project ideas on Pinterest. We might expand to other social media platforms as we go so keep your eyes peeled for updates. You can find links to our different sites on every page of the website.
So, what do you think? Does DIY Green Living sound like a great idea to you? Until we get comment features let me know by posting on Facebook or Google+ or sending me an email (you can find my address in the Contacts page). Also, if you have great ideas for projects or if you have any questions let me know about them and I’ll do my best to address them. I might even let you write us an article for your project!
